Dairy Event 2010: Hit high organic yields without imported feed

Organic diets capable of high yields of 8000 litres can be achieved from UK sources.


Reducing imports of organic feed ingredients is a big challenge for the organic sector, with imports of proteins from Asia, South America and Eastern Europe far from ideal, said Hi Peak Organic Feed's Ian Proctor.

"This move is essential if the presently inadequate premium for organic milk over conventional is to be addressed."

With the existence of more organic protein crops such as rapeseed and sunflower seed it should be possible, he said
