Adopting a teamwork approach has brought down the mastitis rates at Brue Valley Farms from 120 cases for every 100 cows a year to 30 cases for every 100 cows.
Speaking at a farm health planning seminar at this year's Dairy Event and Livestock Show, farm owner Rob Clapp said working together as a team and regularly monitoring the herd has effectively brought down his mastitis rate.
"We are consistent and we are trying to be as complete as possible with our records, because the more you do it the better you get at it," added.
Vet James Breen from the Orchard Vet Group said: "By regularly monitoring data you get to know what's going on in the herd on your farm. We are doing this so we know there isn't a problem and so we can see if there is one developing."
He advised farmers to use the resources available to them, including the DairyCo Mastitis Plan, start measuring and taking regular data that they can analyse with their vets, and monitor and look at patterns within the herd.
