Irrigation is a wonderful thing – in the right place at the right time.
But a leaking hydrant in a standing field of wheat can go undetected for a long while, as North Kent farmer/contractor Harold Osenton found to his peril.
Happily cutting away on Saturday afternoon, Harold’s John Deere WTS combine suddenly sunk right up to its axles, leaving the header resting on the deck.
Any attempts to free it just resulted in the big machine burying itself further.
After several hours of struggle, 10 men, three tractors and a mini-digger failed to get the combine free.
Rescue came in the form of a heavy commercial winch mounted on an eight-wheeler HGV.
If you've captured a hilarious act of machine wrecking on camera then send your snaps (plus your contact details) and a brief description of the situation) to fwmachinery@rbi.co.uk.
Please remember to include a brief desciption of the situation so we can do your story justice.
