New Zealand farmer Mike Solari believes he has broken the wheat yield world record with a 15.36t/ha crop of Savannah off two fields totalling 14.5ha.

Officials from the Guinness Book of World Records are yet to verify the record, but two JPs were on hand to witness the yield.

The record attempt took place on Friday 23 March on Mr Solari’s farm in Gore, Southland, which is the southernmost region of New Zealand's South Island.

The record is currently held by Oamaru farmer Chris Dennison who grew a crop in 2003 that yielded 15.015 t/ha.

FWi will bring you more on the record next week.
