A third case of foot and mouth suspected in Surrey, has been denied by DEFRA.
The department has confirmed to FWi the information is unfounded.
Sky news was carrying the story at about 10.20am.
It comes on the back of a second confirmed case of foot and mouth within the protection zone this morning.
It was claimed animal health staff identified clinical signs of the disease as part of their surveillance activity.
Farmers are being urged to check their stock regularly. UK-wide movement bans on livestock remain in place, with the exception of Northern Ireland.
