Land Rover is nailing its colours to the eco-friendly mast with this LRX concept vehicle, shown at the Detroit Motor Show.
Shorter than a current Freelander and with a 2 litre biodiesel-electric hybrid providing the power, it claims to be able to reduce fuel consumption by 30% and cut emissions to 120g/km. It will run solely on electric power at lower speeds. Other green items include door inserts made from recycled plastic bottles.
Van-based Peugeot 
Partner Tepee Outdoor isn't 4wd but has raised suspension to give more ground clearance, special 215/5 R16 tyres and an under-body sump-guard to allow limited off-roading.
Engine choice includes 90hp and 110hp diesels and there are lots of storage lockers to hold stuff. Prices will be announced at the launch in June.
Saab will be entering the 4x4 crossover market with this 9-4X, shown at this year's Detroit Motor Show.
Engine will be a 2-litre 300hp Biopower unit capable of running on E85 bioethanol and managing a speedy 0-60mph time of just 7.9 seconds.
The all-wheel drive system will include an electronic limited-slip differential.
