Entries are now open for the 2008 Pfizer Trainee of the Year Award which provides readers of Poultry World the opportunity to choose the UK's top poultry trainee.

Pfizer and Poultry World launched the award last year to recognise trainees of all ages who have expanded their skills through on-the-job training, primarily through NVQ qualifications.

The award is being repeated this year with prizes worth more than £2500 including an engraved trophy, a training programme of his or her choice and a day-and-night in London to attend a high-profile presentation ceremony in Whitehall.

"With the everyday challenges faced in the poultry industry, training becomes ever more important and so we want to encourage those undertaking training to enter," says Emmeline Randall, Pfizer Animal Health product manager. "This award aims to recognise the value training adds to the livestock under their care, their employers and fellow workers."

The process

Entries are open to trainees who have expanded their skills by on-the-job NVQ training and they can either enter themselves or be nominated by their employer.

The deadline for entries is 21 May, after which a short list of three finalists, selected by a judging panel, will be profiled in the June, July and August issues of Poultry World. And then, you as a reader of Poultry World can play your part in voting for the winner.

Then send completed entry forms to Trainee of the Year, Poultry World, Quadrant House, the Quadrant, Sutton, Surrey SM2 5AS. Alternatively, e-mail or fax them.
