The Pig Industry Service Award 2008 was awarded to East Yorkshire farmer Fred Henley from Seaton Ross. It was presented to Mr Henley by DEFRA minister Jeff Rooker and was, according to the judges, given in recognition of Mr Henley's unstinting behind-the-scenes work campaigning on behalf of the industry. After enduring continually diminishing returns, Mr Henley has now decided to quit pig farming and leave his finishing buildings empty. "They will stay empty until retailers and processors come to their senses," he explained.
