Animal extremists have attacked Welsh farming union offices in protest against farmer support for the Welsh assembly's decision to include a limited badger cull in its TB eradication programme.

The Carmarthen offices of both NFU Cymru and the Farmers Union of Wales were daubed with pro-badger and Animal Liberation Front slogans, including "cull farmers not badgers".

Glue was poured in the locks at the FUW's office in the town, which is located in a TB hotspot.

Anti farming slogans were also painted four other NFU Cymru buildings, including those at Haverfordwest and Swansea.

An FUW spokesman described the attacks as "an attempt to intimidate Welsh farmers" by extremist vandals who had failed to win the scientific, democratic and political arguments about the most effective way of tackling bovine TB.

"We are in constant contact with the police and will be doing everything we can to help catch these criminals," he said.
