Ian Moncrieff had not been out combining for 10 days at Berry
Hill Farm, Dundee, but with better weather forecast he hoped to be
on soon.
He still had 80ha (200 acres) of wheat and 20ha (50 acres) of
spring barley to finish off.
“The wheat has gone over in patches and is sprouting a bit, but
the barley is a very good crop,” he said.
The 16ha (40 acres) of Alchemy second wheat cut so far had
yielded reasonably well, said Mr Moncrieff.
The Decanter spring barley had averaged 8t/ha (3.25t/acre) on
the home farm and just under 7.4t/ha (3t/acre) on the contracted
land.
“It has done quite well and is going for malting, which is
pleasing. We’re hoping to get finished up next week.”

Duxford winter
wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2008/09 variety with very high UK
treated yields and the top score for resistance to lodging with
PGR. Combined with an unbeaten second wheat yield and a balanced
disease resistance profile, this new variety from Syngenta Seeds
will help UK growers rise to the challenge of producing more grain
profitably. See the
