Ian Green has not combined since Sunday night (22 August) at Corskie Farm, Garmouth, Morayshire.

“We’ve had a horrendous amount of rain in the past 48 hours. It’s just miserable.”

So far he had cut 142ha (350 acres) of spring barley and 73ha (180 acres) of winter barley.

That left 100ha (250 acres) of wheat, 12ha (30 acres) of spring oats and 283ha (700 acres) of spring barley to do.

“The quality has been absolutely excellent so far, but we need the weather to get it harvested – I’m a little bit concerned that we’re going to start seeing pre-germination and splits.”

Yields on lighter land had been slightly disappointing, he said. “But crops on the heavy land look tremendous. They’re only just ready now.”

Oxbridge spring barley had averaged 5.92t/ha (2.4t/acre) so far, while Volume, Boost and Element winter barley had yielded 8.21t/ha (3.3t/acre).
