VIDEO: National Trust badger vaccination

The National Trust has released an informative video detailing its badger vaccination programme at Killerton Estate, Devon.

The large agricultural estate, situated five miles north-east of Exeter, includes 18 farms spread across a total of 2,630ha (6,500 acres).

The trust is working with contract workers from the Food and Environment Research Agency (FERA) to vaccinate badger against TB with the BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guérin) vaccine, also used to protect humans against the disease.

Badgers are a significant source of bovine TB infection in cattle. It is hoped that the four-year programme will help prevent the spread of bovine TB, which devastates herds.
