Cubicle and headlock specialist Howgill UK has started importing the O'Neill Staller, a calf and sheep headlock designed to fit on to a range of machines.
The lightweight and mobile headstock allows farmers to attach it to gates, pens, trucks or quad bikes, meaning either calves or sheep can be secured safely to allow farmers to dehorn, tag and feed without having to manually hold the animal.
Designed by Caroline O'Neill, a farmer's daughter from Ballinadee, Ireland, the device was designed after seeing her mother repeatedly suffering from a bad back after catching and feeding calves.
Caroline entered Irish entrepreneurial TV programme Feirm Factor (a bit like Dragon's Den) with the idea, and beat 11 other farmers' ideas, winning a brand new Discovery 4 and a cash prize. She has sold more than 400 since March 2010. The O'Neill Staller costs £240.
