LAMMA preview: new tractors take centre stage

With a record number of exhibitors, this year’s LAMMA event offers visitors a wealth of new products to observe, assess and comment on.

Deutz-Fahr

Making its debut appearance in the UK at the LAMMA event is the Deutz-Fahr Agrotron L 730, which joins the manufacturer’s +200hp tractor range.

Powered by a Deutz Common Rail (DCR) six-cylinder turbo diesel engine rated at 220hp, this engine meets the latest emission standards and features high constant torque and low fuel consumption.

The 50kph, full powershift transmission provides 12 gears in three ranges – creep, work and transport – and changes can be effected either manually by depressing the button on the PowerComS control lever or, automatically using the Automatic Powershift function. Changes made in Automatic mode are activated by load conditions and engine speed.

For the operator, the new S Class cab offers pneumatic cab suspension, optimum sound insulation, 6.5sq m of glass and a completely redesigned interior.

Claas

Claas Axion 900

Making its debut appearance in the UK is the Claas Axion 900 tractor range – a four model range which offers power ratings from 320hp up to 410hp.

By exercising its right to be able to choose the engine the company feels best suits its needs, the new models are powered by a FPT Cursor 9, 8.7 litre, six-cylinder 24 valve engine which uses SCR technology in its emission control.

The engine drives through a 50kph ZF transmission which has four automatically engaged mechanical ranges to help ensure the maximum amount of power is available for the final drive.

The transmission is controlled using the Claas Cmatic management system, which is designed to provide efficient power transfer to both the pto and the wheels.

John Deere

John Deere 9RAiming to make a big impression at LAMMA – and likely to do just that – John Deere is exhibiting its 9R Series tractors. These offer a power range from 410hp up to 560hp and a maximum of 616hp.

The largest and most powerful tractors the company has ever built, the new models replace the 9030 Series which were introduced in 2007.

Powered by six-cylinder, 13.5 litre PowerTech PSX engines which meet the Stage 3B emission requirements, Deere has chosen to take the engine gas recirculation (EGR) route rather than the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) for emission control.

In the transmission an 18 x 6 powershift box provides a top speed of 40kph.

It’s a big tractor with many big-tractor features.

New Holland

T6New Holland brings a slice of Agritechnica to LAMMA with the UK launch of the T6 tractor range – a seven model series which offers a power range from 119hp to 175hp.

The tractors are powered by ECOBlue SCR NEF engines, which are claimed to reduce operating costs by up to 10% due to engine idle speed management and the 1000 Eco pto option.

For the first time New Holland has also announced it will be fitting Cesar security systems as standard to tractors manufactured at its Basildon plant starting in early in the year.

Cesar claims to be the most successful and widely used scheme in the world with more than 70,000 units now registered.

McCormick

McCormick X70.80 studio 01Taking centre stage on the McCormick stand at LAMMA will be the new X70 Series tractor range which is due to replace the current XTX and TTX models through the coming spring. The five-model, 150hp to 232hp X70 Series will be the manufacturer’s first to be powered by an SCR Stage 3B/Tier 4i emission-compliant engine.

McCormick will also be displaying for the first time at LAMMA the X60 Series – four models from 92hp to 121hp which, introduced in May last year, replaced the company’s CX tractors.
