Reasonable rapeseed at Foxes Farm

Oilseed rape is yielding reasonably well at Andrew Baker’s Foxes Farm, Creeting St Mary, Suffolk, but a lot is still not ready to combine.

“We’ve cut all the rapeseed that was fit – the rest won’t be ready until at least Friday (3 August),” he said.

Alienor, grown for seed, had averaged about 3.8t/ha, with Cabernet yielding slightly better as a commercial crop.

“It’s hard to tell until it’s been over a weighbridge, but that’s what the combine was telling me.

“The Cabernet was just starting to lean, but the Alienor was still standing and had very clean healthy stubble.”

Cordiale winter wheat was extremely forward, with Diego about a fortnight off, he added.

“If it dried out we could cut the Cordiale in the next couple of days. It look alright – it’s not as healthy as we’d like, but I don’t think much wheat is this year.”
