1st Blog post!

Helloo!

I'm Matty. This is my 1st post on here and it was a hard one to think about- what do you do, say, talk about??? Well, a brief overview -  I am not a farmer, nor a famers son (definately not a farmers daughter - that i am aware of). I live in a town but have a big interest in farming, shooting and other things in the countryside. Hopefully, you will find my blog interesting, and may be a amusing! I wil probably just ramble on about, well, something! I am 15 next month and ( i think) i am one of the youngest on here!

So, we have seen some hard frosts this week up here in Northumberland. I was out shooting in scotland, shooting pigeons, which was a great day, despite not shooting a thing! The OSR is growing well and wheat seems to be getting a good start. Pigeons were hammering the OSR so hopefully we have frightened them a bit! On the other hand, despite having a non-existent bag in scotland, we had a decent bag of 6 rabbits here in Northumberland. The ferets were doing well apart from laying up once or twice and for about 2 hours work, we got 6. Not bad! We also had some of the people who live on the farm (they used to live in the town and think now they have bought a field and a shed - whcih is empty, they are farmers) came out to observe us - hopefully they got slightly educated about the countryside! Lots of planning is now going into next years shooting season, so thats something to look forward too!

Grain prices seem to be good @ the minute! (not for us shooters who's budget is going through the roof)!! On the other hand, i am contenplating growing some spring barley on the allotment for some bird seed?! Who knows?

I will look forward to blogging more on here and please excuse spelling and punctuation - i dont know what it is!

Matty.

P.S. Rugby is the game to play!!!

I think it is great that you are so keen to go into the industry. Your enthusiasm could be what makes you a success. Did you know that our 2006 Farmer of the Year was a first generation farmer? Inspiration for you!
