Grassgrowth, lambing night duty and farrowing.

Well, yet another week is upon us. Lambings still in full swing, only about 20 left to go now with one pig to farrow too. I loved kansas farmers blog title - it seemed to describe me too!

Grassgrowth is non-existent, which means feeding ewes for longer, and with us being organic, its stupidly expensive! No where on our land does the grass seem to grow which is a real pain to be honest. On the plus side, lambings going well, around 200% which the boss is happy with - i think he was just pleased he didnt have 6 lambs like the guys at Cefn Crai Farm, Trecastle, Brecon in Powys (you can tell i copy and pasted that name). One of the pigs is in doors in the farrowing pens now, ready to give birth anyday. We also have another farrowing pen full, npot with pigs but with lambs. Sadly we have a few orphaned lambs and they are getting bottle fed in there - one of them is hudge - a real beast - he even tryed a taste of the old rigger boot.

But, I am on night dutey tommorow night (yes thats right, a sunday night!) but i dont mind really, a flask of tea and packet of digestive biscuits and i am happy as a pig in poo (i actually volunteered for it)! You may say, why did you volunteer to stay in a shed allnight with sheep for company and some bloke off smooth FM jabbering away with sounds of the 60's on - well you know what, thats a bloomin good question!!!

I will keep you updated to how it goes- knowing my luck, the pig will farrow and i will have a few sets of breach triplets to deal with! Pics on the gallery now too!
