Job interview

As i have probably mentioned, I have to take 2 weeks out of school on work experience this year - I have now found some faith in the education system! Who ever though of that actually did have brains and i cant wait!

Getting to the point, i organised my placement myself (I didnt want to end up working in ASDA) and I got onto this estate here which looks really good and also has a great reputation! So, i recieved the confimation letter to say it was insured etc etc and all that boring paper worky stuff that ( to me) seems pretty crap (and a bit OTT but i suppose it has to be done) was complete and all was sorted - however it also said i had to go for an interview - H&S i think and also just to see that i am not some sort of loony!

Then the problem came.... 1st of all i had to ring - i hate calling people as i either start talking and then come off the phone half an hour later after going off on some tangent or i call and make a right idiot of myself. So i rang, and aranged the interview. Not too bad!

Problem 2 - what to wear? I know this sounds really women like but its a farm, i dont want to go suited up but then again i dont want to go in my ripped jeans and a manky rugby shirt! So, asking people (women) what to wear came back with ''go smart'' so i have had a rumage thorugh my draws and found my decent shirt and a tie - i think i look a complete idiot though and then someone even suggested wearing cords!! CORDS MAN!!! I am 15 not 50 (sorry if you are into cordoroys but there not really my thing).

I am stuck now, dont know what to wear! All i need to do is find where the office is on the thousands of acres of estate! :(

On a brighter note - 16th of June for two weeks i am on the farm working (8.30 - 16.30) which i cant wait for - hopefully may be able to work there during harvest and haymaking - the job description looks great!!!!!

Goodbye for now and I will let you know how i get on (Isabel, caroline - any tips???)

My only tip would be to be yourself. Don't pretend that you know everything - but make it clear that you are a quick learner and will ask if you aren't sure. All people want are enthusiastic people, who are willing to be flexible, and don't go off at a tangent.

I think you'll be fine.

Personally, I would veer away from cords, unless you're aspiring to be a land agent ;)

I'd probably go for a shirt and tie if I were you,cos I think you'd feel worse if you turned up in jeans and everyone else was really smart. Plus it will help make you look like your really keen and serious about getting the placement.

Good luck, though as Isabel says, I'm sure you'll be fine. You just need to come across as enthusiastic, interested in what you're doing and willing to learn - which I'm sure will be easy for :)

I like cords. Sorry, must be the illness talking. I do have a big love towards courd dungarees. Especially red ones.

Personally, I would wear a shirt. Rolled up sleeves of course. Some non-suit trousers and some casual but sturdy footwear. But pack your wellies and overalls (I wouldnt turn up in them though).

Sounds good mate!! Thats what i was thinking - i might drop the red cords, they may lock me in a padded cell!

I'm not against cords. But given your age Matty I think they may be a step too far! :)

Like T says - I'd go relatively smart but with access to some more practical stuff.
