Do you make your own biodiesel, how much do you pay for used cooking oil?

Do you make your own biodiesel and how much do you pay for used oil... I only ask because my pal Charlie tells me that at about 20p/litre (25p/litre for the good stuff) its almost as expensive to make as it is to buy standard diesel out of the pumps...

    Simon,

Waste oil is in demand at present, poor quality oil (highly homogenised and with a high free fatty acid content) is selling from 15-20 pence, the better quality waste oil is currently selling at anything from 22 - 28 pence per litre.

Production is generally a matter of scale, we don't produce ourselves, but access supplies from many producers around the UK.We are aware there are over 700 at this time!!

Currently our best price for biodiesel is around 71.5 pence per litre (including duty) delivered in a 30,000 litre tanker. This equates to around 84 pence per litre with VAT. Prices vary slightly dependent on volumes required, and delivery area.

We can also supply biodiesel pre-blended with derv, enabling users to stay within their vehicle manufacturers warranty limits.

Is there any large scale production of fuels left now in the UK?? I was involved in building  a plant for the rough stage of cleaning, prior to titration, around 40tons pw, at the time I'm sure the product was sold to hull, all the oil is now going to Germany as the plant a been closed, the buyer from Germany said they had around a 2m budget too get waste oil collectors "on side"
