    export rules

Anybody help? Anyone out there know what the rules are regarding the sending of hatching eggs or chicks to Spain. Been on the DEFRA site, can't seem to find the answer there, and sellers of the above either don't have a clue, or they can't be bothered to e-mail me back. Please help!! We're sick of the scruffy excuses for chickens we get over here, we'd love some Rhode Island Reds or Light Sussex, and could sell as many as we could get hold of to others.

You would be better off contacting one of the French breeder companies, either Hubbard (Grimaud Freres) or Sasso and get them overland from Europe. They would have to be their hybrid breeds though as they don't do traditional English types. To export chicks or eggs I think we would need an export licence renewed annually, you would require an import licence likewise, the only airline which to my knowledge will take chicks abroad now is BA which means using Heathrow as none of the other airports will handle chicks I think with only minor exceptions. I used to use Manchester and Birmingham and Heathrow and now all chicks come in by truck instead. Air France were just a joke. The cost of flying small numbers is prohibitive so you would have to be talking several thousand at once.
