Government after more money from farmers

I wasn't sure if too laugh or cry at this article in the Telegraph today especially after the article about Peter Kendall in this weeks FW.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/2265116/Meat-and-milk-prices-will-rise-to-reflect-environmental-costs.html

I though  the bit about the half the greenhouse gases from the UK food chain coming from agriculture was the bit that made me both laugh and cry. As I would have thought that agriculture accounted for a lot of the food chain in the first place.

I use two mental tricks to stop myself believing that the chattering classes are insane. The first is to laugh and cry simultaneously and the second is to remember that information is merely collated data, whereas knowledge is that same data tested against the practicalities and applications of life.

The encouraging thing about that article is that all the people writing in with their comments, think that it is a ludicrous idea and are as disgusted as we are with the lunacy.

I will have to remember your second trick Peter. It made me laugh nearly as much as when they have someone from Labour saying that they are not going to raise taxes then in the neext breath reel of a list of taxes they're putting up then swear blind that taxes aren't actually going up when the interviewer points out the error of their logic.

The interesting thing is that the Government seems to want to tax farming in the same way they would someone who drove a fast sports car. There is a vital difference: a fast sports car is a luxury - food from farming is a necessity. At least it was when I had lunch. Perhaps Gordon has now created the totally green person who can live on fresh air.

Can anyone remember the 60/70's song "Gordon is a moron..."? It could replace "Things can only get better.."!

If I remember right it was sung by Jilted John - could that be Prescott do you suppose?

It seems kind of ironic in that it seems like someone went back in time to persifically write and perform the song about Gordon and Labour.
