    Cabbages...

    Hello all,

I'm looking into growing cabbages as part of a crop rotation and would like to know some information on the following: the demand for cabbages, market requirements and quality (including contracts with buyers if necessary), soil and climatic requirements, sowing and harvesting dates and techniques, the implications on a crop rotation, the future prospects of cabbage growing, and of course some sort of economics of cabbage production.  The books and journals i have read seem to cover nutrition and pests/disease very well but not much else.

Please could anyone who grows cabbages commercially help me.

    Thanks in advance

You could try this site - has a fair bit of market data, prices etc and features on a load of fresh produce. I think you have to register to access a lot of it, but it's free and fairly painless! There are also plenty of links to other fruit & veg companies.

Thanks Paul the website looks at a quick glance like an aladins cave of information!  I also found, after much hunting, that there are pages on the RPA website about crop quality, and not just for cabbages.

    Cabbages,

Hello all, I am not a Veg grower, just an interested party. My son is doing a job near Evesham and I went with him last week to have a look.I had not been to the Area for some years and I live on the Cotswolds but I was astonished there were no fields of Veg that I remember, the Glass Houses were in disrepair,Poly Tunnels empty. What has happened and why, or am I in retro Star land because I remember[or think I do] field upon field of Veg.
