Bluepaint, good V8's? Err Not the V800! Deeres V8, I guess Kinzie never took a Cummins out and put a Deere in! GM's 6.5? They had a few issues, not a tractor engine though. What about the Cummins 903? Where do you stand on the DT466? Make mine the CDC 8.3...
I never acually drove a Steiger or Versitile, but understand they are the weapon of choice, especially if you pull scrapers. But a new STX series Steiger isgoing to have plenty of electrics controlling the powershift and fueling and the hitch if it has one. These tractors are great if you are just pulling a big cultivator or a scraper and I see the attraction of big and simple, but tractors doing row crop type work where matching speeds and precise hydrualic control are needed need something with more technology. We had a Challenger on demo and the driver said how much better it would be if it had an IVT (he owns his tractor). Never really had much bother with error codes, the early 40 series would serve them up all the time and mostly thet were false alarms. The MXs PTO quit once and the error code told us it was electrical so we need not get the spanners out. It was a chaffed wire from the alternator and cost 2 inches of insulation tape to fix.
I did have a day on a 3788, really good idea spoilt buy rubbish componants. How about a Magnum based 2+2 ??? I also drove an old 1969 Farmall 856, lovely old tractor, not sure were it went wrong when it turned into the 1066, but they might burn me at the stake for saying that...
