    cleaning out

we have/ had afew chickens (the fox got a few, while some where out last year!) and we've been having this arguement about how often to clean out the blighters- me and a few others think that its not needed to be done more than twice a month, bearing in mind we have a small no. of them. However others think that it should be done more often. i hope to *clean* this discussion up once and for all, and show this post to everyone at the funny farm!Yes

    Re: cleaning out

We have 25 hens of various breeds and ages, I pooper scoop daily (they are on shavings) and about once a year, or more if it begins to smell,  give the house a thorough clean out. The previous owners used to vacuum the cobwebs but I think that's going a bit far!

    Re: cleaning out

When I used to keep chickens as pets I used to give them a quick droppings clean out once a month. Then about every 4 months do a proper thorough clean. After doing a proper clean give a good scrub with a mild diluted disinfectant, gets rid of most little beasties!! I also used to put a generous dusting of louse powder every 4 months to keep mites away. Don't know if if the stuff still exists though!! Happy cleaning!!!Smile
