How can I include photographs in my blog post?

I'm glad you asked me that! It's great that so many people are now blogging on FWiSpace but so far you are mostly blogging just words and you must be wondering how you can give your blog posts a bit more fizz.

A picture can paint a thousand words which would save you a lot of typing. It can also brightens up your blog post and makes it easier on your readers' eyes. And, best of all, you can show your readers what you are talking about: your corn, your horse, your ewe, your you.

    So here you go...

There are at least three ways to include a picture in a post - depending on where the photograph you want to include is:

    • 1. Somewhere on the Internet
    • 2. On your computer
    • 3. In your FWiSpace photo gallery.

    1. The photograph is somewhere on the Internet

Obviously, you can only use photographs that are yours or that you have permission to use. For this example I asked Isabel nicely and she said I could use the Wreckers Yard picture which is on this page of FWi

I put my mouse over the picture and click the right (i.e. not left) mouse button and select Copy Image Location.

Although nothing appears to happen, your computer will copy the location (the URL) of the picture and remember it until you copy something else.

Now, start writing your new blog post

In your blog post, click on the Insert/Edit Image icon and then click in the Image URL box and paste (ctrl  V or right-mouse-click then Paste) the image location in.  You can also set the alignment of the pic here:

    • Not set - the words you type in your blog will not appear next to the image - only above or below it.
    • Left - The picture will appear on the left and your words will run attractively around it.
    • Right -  The picture will appear on the right and your words will run attractively around it.

Ignore the other options; they are just there to confuse you.

Hit Insert and your image will appear in your blog post.

Be sure to click off the picture before you type anything or you will delete it!

    2. The photograph is on my computer

    • Start writing your new blog post
    • Click on the Content Selector button - on your toolbar
    • Click on the tab that doesn't say "Photos" (in the example below it's 'Farmer Blogger's Blog' Blog Files - yours will be different)
    • Then click on Browse under Upload Files
    • Select your file from your computer in the usual way:

You must click Upload File and wait for the file to upload. Then click OK.

The picture will appear in your blog post.

Be sure to click off the picture before you type anything or you will delete it!

    3. The photograph is in my FWiSpace photo gallery

    • Start writing your new blog post
    • Click on the Content Selector button - on your toolbar
    • A "Select Content" box will come up. Find your gallery in the left column and click on it.

Here is what the Select Content box looks like(In case you're confused, my blog is called "Farmer Blogger's Blog". My photo gallery is called AndrewBlogger's Gallery which contains one picture of a chicken)

    • As you can see, your galler pictures appear in the right hand box.
    • Click on the picture you want and select the size you want it to appear (thumbnail, small, medium, large or original)
    • Click on "OK" and bingo!

The picture appears in your blog post like this:

Be sure to click off the picture before you type anything or you will delete it!
