    Wish me luck

    I know it's been a while since I wandered in..(long story).

BUT...I have just written a nagging letter to my landlords (housing Association) asking why I can keep pigeons in my back garden and not chickens!

I am awaiting a reply and hopefully permission...considering I know chickens can't be as smelly as the 3 dairy farms that surround the housing and are definately not as noisy as the dog next door but one (and far more useful than the annoying mutt). I know the diseases etc..(grew up with the bleeding birds)

Here's the irony, we are the only HA house in a row of 4, are there restrictions on the neighbours? no, they can have a rottweiller, a peacock or a herd of pigs if they like, but me and 4 chucks...nope.

Have askend the neighbours and they have no problem with it (neither do the people behind us, and they have a sodding cockerel).

So as I asked...Wish me luck!

Just give me land, lots of land, with the starry skies above....don't fence me in.

    Re: Wish me luck

Well had the housing chap out. He was stunned that we were told we weren't allowed to keep chickens (His in-laws run a farm..bonus) So he is going to tell the head of the H/A that it is  a ridiculous rule that doesn't consider individuals living in a village in the middle of nowhere. He thinks that as surveyor that the permission letter will get passed to him and if it does he will say no problem Wink .

Well housing officer said..NO because chickens are livestock and there is no provision for livestock. (but I can have pigeons or a ruddy great rottweiler)

Housing stock surveyor says leave it with him..he's going to annoy head of housing...so the wait continues

Good luck!! I know rules & regulations are there for a purpose, but in your case I can't see why you can't keep your 4 chucks. If the neighbours are allowed, then why not you?!! Its one rule for one, & another rule for the others!! If it was my way I'd make it so that everyone could keep chickens!!
