    Machinery prices up 10%

I went round a few of the machinery stands at Cereals to see how rising costs, etc were affecting their sales. There was a general feeling that sales for the first half of 08 had been very good (some had broken annual sales targets already!), but likely to slow down a fair bit for the second half of the year - not surprising given cost of fuel, fert.

New kit prices for most of those I spoke to were up about 10% on last year. They say it's because of rising steel & rubber costs plus exchange rate fluctuations - cynics might say part of the rise was due to them cashing in on higher cereal/ oilseed prices!! Wink Longer lead times were the other issue - I spoke to someone who had been told he'd have to wait four months for a set of new tyres.

Interested to hear how anyone else has got on buying new kit....or are you all saving your money to fill the diesel tank?! Indifferent

    Paul

We bought a trailer last November. By the time it arrived, the cost to buy the same one had gone up £3k. All down to steel.

Bought a diesel tank. It is over twice the price of the tank to fill it up.

Your trailer sounds like our dung spreader which went up £1000 a week after we ordered ours. Mind you it still was still cheaper by 2 or 3k on  the other.
