A big welcome to all new users - be brave and say hello!

I've been fiddling around the back of this site (it's the strange place I go if I need to set someone up with a picture gallery or blog) and I have picked up something quite interesting. Since FWiSpace's launch we've had over 100 new users sign up and I thought I ought to say hello to you all!

I thought I'd introduce myself and perhaps others (regulars and any new people) would like to do the same! Big Smile If you want to stay anonymous - just say hello! Big Smile

    Here goes:

I'm Isabel, a farmer's daughter from Leicestershire, and have worked for Farmers Weekly since 1998. Until about a month ago I was deputy news editor but I'm now in a new position and keeping the forums in good working order is one of my roles (along with things like the letters page of Farmers Weekly magazine and the Opinion columns).

Machinery is a bit of a mystery to me (so you won't find me posting much in Talking Tackle), but I can bore people for Britain on issues like SFP and agricultural politics. I like trashy novels, Diet Coke and the sort of confectionary that most people abandon when they reach puberty.

    Hello SDM

Graduated from uni in 2005 with a degree in Agriculture and Land Management, travelled for 14 months before returning home to work in Sales for a Agric based company.

Have been on FWi for ages as was always very useful for getting opinions and ideas for uni and college projects!

Have 10acres of grass at home, no animals just the headache of trying to get the local contractors to come and do the work as they wont be sending me a massive bill like they will the bigger boys!!

Hate diet coke and try and keep of confectionary

Starting to sound like an online AA meeting!!

Still trying to work out how to get a little picture under my name, Its my aim to work it out before xmas!!

You've got a picture now! Happy Christmas!

(There's a glitch in the system which we still haven't quite cracked that makes me approve the profile pictures before they appear. The big problem is that people have to tell me they have tried as they system doesn't...Crying)

Re: A big welcome to all new users - be brave and say hello!

Well I've been hanging around here for a while now (and certain other rival forums Big Smile )

My father's family were Norfolk farmers until the 1970s and I spent many long happy childhood summers hanging around there learning the ropes.  However after the landlords sold the farm off for development, any chance of that career evaporated and living in town (hence the username) I didn't get much more country air than the odd holiday allowed.  After 15 odd years of mainly office jobs in various parts of the world we bought a small place in Leicetershire with just a few acres and started hobby farming first with some sheep and then goats and a llama.  A few years later we decided to make more of a go of it and moved to West Wales where we continue to farm the goats (Angoras), some cattle (Welsh Black, of course) and several more llamas, with which we run treks in the lovely mountains and forests near our home.  We more than break even now and with luck and a fair wind (but not too much rain) we might actually make a full living off this one day.

BTW: is your clock a bit fast - it's now 2nd August at 15:40 but I can see posts timestamped after 17:00 ?!

Hello Townie. In your profile your time zone is set to GMT +2 hrs - (Istanbul and Athens) for some reason. Hence you are seeing strange times.

    To change it:

    1. Click on EDIT PROFILE at the top of the page next to your name
    2. Go to Site Options
    3. Scroll down to TIME ZONE
    4. Select whatever time zone you are in.
    5. Make sure you scroll down and SAVE

    Hi Isabel,

I've  managed to get my avatar posted at last!

We farm 20 acres in Herefordshire and raise Southdown sheep and Gloucestershire Old Spots pigs. My wife does most of the work and I pontificate about it on chat sites.

We've only been farming for three years since we moved from near Heathrow. (Bit of a change there).

A farming friend recently said he had been impressed at how quickly my wife had taken to farming since previously she had been working for an F1 race team however he was even more impressed at how politicised she had become with reference to the government's attitude to British farming. Comes with the territory I suppose.

I like science fiction, folk music and british cuisine and at the moment I'd just like to get the bloody hay in!

I have been trying to get my avatar up but without success so far. Have just tried again & shall see how we go this time Smile

Ok, I am Craig (aka Tas Cowboy), from the land down under. I work as an agronomist for a seed production company here in Tasmania. I have been a long time reader of FW & find it to be a great publication,

    Hi Isabel

Have been a member of FWI since May 2005 so not new, I have however started to use the forums more now they have been updated, great improvement!

I was a dairy farmer in the UK up until 1999 when we sold up and moved to NZ. Diversified into horticulture so not directly involved with dairy farming now, having milked cows for 20 years I still however take an interest, looking in from the outside gives you a different view.

P.S. have just looked at my profile my last login was 1st June 1754 I didn’t realise I had been a member for so long.

    Cool

    Cool

    Hi Guys

I am a farmers wife, however, I don't conform to the usual W.I, type of thing. My bloke is lucky if he can find a clean pair of socks in the morning. For gods sake , there is too much shopping to do in town, too many coffee shops in which to meet friends , and too many sexy horses to ride in the afternoon. But I DO put up with him leaving my bed at 5.30am and not returning  until 12midnight and I ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING WARM WAITING FOR HIM !!!
