    Derbyshire Fendt dealers, G&R Pykett recently drove a Fendt 936 from Landsend to John O Groats on a tank of diesel.

    I beleive a large part of this journey was on the motorway, although they did need special permission to do this

    i thought the most major road you could drive on was a dual carriage way as long as youve got the orange becon on

    As far as I know the tractor has to be taxed as Commercial and not agricultural and must not use a rebated fuel.

    Tractors were always not permitted on motorways as the minimum speed for motorways was set at 30 mph.

    Times have changed but I dont think the law has!

    Wooly , I've been stuck on a few motorways wishing the traffic would get up to tractor speed. Also I have never seen a sign suggesting a minimum speed.

    I'm at reading uni and had a lecture on this the other week, so far as i could gather from the agri-transport pc giving the lecture  a tractor is not classed as a motorised vehicle and so regardless of maxium speed are not permitted on the motorway. He mentioned something about tractors possibly being allowed on the motorways if they were reclassed as a motor vehicle and not just a powered machine.

    i believe you can legally take a tractor on the motorway for one junction if it is the only way to access your land

    Nope not true tractors cannot travel on motorways regardless, the biggest road they can go on is a duel carriage way and thats only with a flashing becon, which you dont need if your going across a dual stupid rules really

    I'm sure i have heard this too.

    In reality however there can be very few places you can't get to without using the motorway if you take a long enough diversion so i wonder how plod would look at it

    "High-speed agricultural vehicles may use motorways provided they meet the following conditions:

    · Capable of at least 25 mph on the level;

    · Fitted with pneumatic tyres;

    · Wheeled vehicles only; and

    · Licensed in an excise duty category other than the concessionary agricultural machine rate.

    Subject to the above criteria being met, trailers may be hauled."

    Generally no, but if you have a 40kph box or above, are taxed as a commercial (rather than agricultural) vehicle and running on white diesel you can.

    Re: tractors and the motorway!!!!!!

    I thought you needed beacons on a tractor on any road, one central beacon or two, one each side.  But I did read this in a dealer's shop, maybe he was just trying to sell flashing lights! Tongue Tied

    Strategery of co-opetition will embiggen a cromulent future.

    The only time it is compulsory to use a beacon is on a dual carriageway when it must be visible from 360 degrees, If this isn't possible extra beacons must be used. As far as i'm aware there is no requirement to have them centrally mounted or in symetrical pairs. I would assume the same would apply to the motorway.       There are of course many other situations where it is desirable to use beacons to warn other road users of possible dangers such as wide or slow moving loads.     I just wish some people would stop using them at every oppertunity as a fashion accessory as i feel this de-sensitises some motorists from the fact that there is a possible danger or then again perhaps nothing will stop them driving like loonys.
