    Royal Show - the future

Do we need it - yes I beleive so !

How do we regenerate it ?? From the heart out ie the Livestock.

Exhibitors, RASE, Breed societies, Livestock related businesses and the International Agri business world must all come together to trash this out and plan to put on again / revive a NATIONAL BREEDING CATTLE SHOW IN THE HEART OF THE COUNTRY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE YEAR. Where else can the whole country meet to compete in a NATIONAL STOCK CHAMPIONSHIP - Cornwall v Scotland; Kent v Wales ETC, ETC.

What do you all think out there - lets really get a movement going to revive the event around its heart which is still trying to beat - the livestock..

I think you've hit the nail on the head - yes we need a National Livestock Show. Does it need to be the Royal? Ideally yes, but unless RASE are prepared to listen to those that know a tad more about shows than their current staff and council do then maybe not.

There are people willing to make the event work, but sadly RASE aren't always prepared to work with them. The classic quote from a senior steward at this year's show encapsulated the attitude for me. When asked what should be done to revive the event he simply said "Its nothing to do with me, I'm just the chief ??????? steward." (I've removed the section to protect the identity, but suffice to say it was an important part of the show). When stewards have that attitiude what hope is there for the show, these people should be proud to be involved with the event and want to see it succeed, some obviously couldn't care a jot.

On the positive side there are I believe moves afoot in the sheep section to regain some control of the event and make it a success, the trouble is it will need to rely on a lot of goodwill from exhibitors and sat here at the Great Yorkshire I can see why many would rather come here than go to the Royal!

Reduce the sky high entry fees. I would need to remortgage to show there, Devon County is bad enough.

Yes, England needs a national livestock show ,we have to put an exhibition on to atract business from around the globe and show them the genetics we have to offer in this country. After years of having our markets closed due to BSE,it's time to bring back the international, and national buyers.Itnot to difficult. One only needs to go to The Royal Highland to see how it is done.Agriculture MUST come back to being the core of the Royal. But if any organisation can balls it up the bowler hats at Stoneleigh probably can.Lets get a council who know how to run an ag. exhibition even .

I took my elderly father for the day out at the royal show , he hadnt been for years and when i told him id take him he was really excited

what a total let down i paid £15.00 for an event that is getting so far away from farming its unreal , the royal show used to be fantastic , but now im sorry to say its total rubbish , do farmers really want there name on a grain of rice?? or a hand blender endorsed by gordon ramsay ? a heated lamp that swirls round ?? or a daisy that swirls water round ??  , the food hall was a dissapointment where was everyone ?? the sheep sheds were empty and the cattle sheds at least they wernt charging to let you in ...............do something about it!!! stop it turning into a big market stall selling rubbish

Re: Royal Show - the future

I think its too late to revive it, all the big manufacturers go to Lamma or Cereals, they could give the plots away and they wouldnt return as it costs so much to man a stand and get all the equipment in.

The livestock organisers annoyed alot of people this year especially on the sheep side with missing pens etc even though they had rung and confirmed they were coming.

The exhibitors won't go because no-one will be there to see what they are selling and the public won't go because there arent any exhibitors no-one is prepared to be the first ones to break the cycle!!

The show was dead this year, I stood on our stand and watched townie family after townie family walk past. Still dont believe they charged £15 for sunday!!

yes £15.00 for a sunday ! and i believe that if you pay for something full price you should get a full price deal !

when i have  been before there were masses of sheep , and all of the livestock sheds were open not just three . I noticed that tesco had a stand that wasnt really worth going too ,  i thought about going to wales for the royal welsh show ..... at least the welsh have better hospitality !!

which stand were you on ??
