"If DEFRA ignore the wildlife situation when it comes to TB then the whole of the country will be affected. It is spreading so fast it is unbelievable. When people talk about the disease it is not a question of 'have you had TB' but 'when did you get it'? I don't think the scientists really understand what is going on on our farms.

"I wish the general public could see that agriculture has not got a vendetta against badgers - it is just we need to tackle everything with TB [including cattle]. If DEFRA will not bite the bullet we are in a lose, lose situation for all time and DEFRA will just not do what needs to be done."

"I have been under restriction for the past seven years but two weeks ago I was told I was free of TB. But when will I go down again - probably the next time I have a routine test. This is also impacting on the next generations - it is devastating their future."

Malcolm Huxtable - Stockley, Devon, past president of the Jersey Cattle Society
