  • Help needed on farmers views towards agri-environmental schemes

Hi there, I am a student studying Environmental science at university and am in serious need of a bit more data for a project I am doing for ECM. If any of you have a couple of minutes (if that) could you please fill in the answers to the following questions (very small questionnaire)? 1. What size is...

  • Hemp Farming in the UK is very profitable if you are within 200 miles of Suffolk

Hi everyone - first post here I run an environmental charity that helps companies to reduce carbon emissions and we promote local food and sustainability. For sustainability we promote Industrial Hemp as a profitable and environmentally sound break crop which is becoming a mainstream raw material for...

  • Re: New bluetongue cases in western England

It seems there may be good news on the way on this story. We've been told off the record that a second batch of tests have returned negative results for bluetongue and so no further movement restrrictions will be imposed. This does of course raise questions about the quality of the testing being...

  • Re: New bluetongue cases in western England

Afraid I've no knowledge of where the outbreak is or how many stock are affected. The feeling is that DEFRA are waiting until Monday so they can consult with stakeholders as to the best course of action. They may extend the current zone westwards or just put in place 20k zones around the outbreaks...

  • Last night's bluetongue meeting

Last night was the first of the three bluetongue meetings we're running with NSA, EBLEX, NBA and LAA. We had a great turnout of farmers and the presentations as expected were excellent, particularly Daan Dercksen from the Netherlands. The main lessons from Daan were that next year will be far worse...

  • Re: Blue Tongue DEFRA spin

Yes Jacobus, but as we can't stop midge movements we have no hope of preventing disease spread completely. Those of us still suffering in the south east have just been slapped in the face again by the EU and face even more losses under the new export rules. Its shambles and we're beggining to...

  • Re: Farming Help Appeal 2007 and Solutions to Mad Cow etc.

As farmers around the world know, those transporting and manufacturing processed food are polluting our air, land and water as well as destroying our health. This is a time for correction and the message needs to go out to the world that understanding and solutions are available now for world leaders...
