Ruaridh Bain

Ruairidh graduated from Edinburgh University with an honours degree in agricultural science in 1980 and completed his PhD at the same institution in 1985.

He is now a researcher at Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) and main areas of research interest include epidemiology and control of potato late-blight; integrated control of potato diseases; elicitors of host resistance in potato; optimised efficacy of potato late-blight fungicides; integrating control of alternaria and phytophthora blights of the potato crop.

Ruairidh provides the potato industry with specialist knowledge transfer, particularly on late blight, and provides Basis training and other educational roles within the SRUC.

Barony, Elmwood and Oatridge Colleges and SAC merged to become Scotland’s Rural College.

The college delivers comprehensive skills, education and business support for Scotland’s land-based industries.
