Martin Boulden is about 80% of the way through harvest at Court Lodge Farm, Aldington, Kent.

He was cutting Claire winter wheat on Saturday (23 August), and yields were pleasing at 8.5-9.5t/ha (3.4-3.8t/acre).

The 162ha (400 acres) each of Hereward and Solstice averaged slightly less at 8-9t/ha (3.2-3.6t/acre). “Every tonne has had to be dried.”

The last sample results Mr Boulden had were from wheat cut 10 days ago, and although protein contents were low, Hagbergs were fine, he said.

He now had 121ha (300 acres) of Claire still to cut. “I don’t think it’s been affected by the weather – we haven’t had too much rain, it’s just been a bit damp.”

After the wheat he had 34ha (85 acres) of Standal peas to do. “They’re not on the ground yet – they look good.”

 Syngenta

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2008/09 variety with very high UK treated yields and the top score for resistance to lodging with PGR. Combined with an unbeaten second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, this new variety from Syngenta Seeds will help UK growers rise to the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
