Adrian Howell finished combining his linseed at Sutton Bridge, Lincs, last week (w/e 19 September), bringing harvest to a close.

The linseed averaged 2.5t/ha (1t/acre), which was pleasing, he said.

“We harvested all the wheat at between 18% and 21% moisture and it was the highest yielding harvest for some time.”

Diego and Viscount yielded the best, but overall the wheat averaged more than 10.5t.ha (4.25t/acre).

Kabuki marrowfat pea had also been pleasing, at 5t/ha (2t/acre), but the vining peas had shelled out and sprouted so had to be abandoned and disced in.

“Most people have finished harvest around here – there are a few beans left,” said Mr Howell.

He was now drilling wheat and lifting Marfona potatoes, which were doing well at 50t/ha (20t/acre).

 Syngenta

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2008/09 variety with very high UK treated yields and the top score for resistance to lodging with PGR. Combined with an unbeaten second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, this new variety from Syngenta Seeds will help UK growers rise to the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
