Harvest is still not underway at Andrew Digwood’s Willow Paddocks Farm, Bridgnorth, Shrops, with rain keeping the combine under wraps.

“We’ll start the rape as soon as the weather picks up,” he said. After 1.5” on Monday night and more rain yesterday (30 July) it would take a bit to dry out.

However, the 30ha (75 acres) each of Lioness and Castille looked well, as did the 12ha (30 acres) of feed barley at 1000ft up.

After the rape and barley would come 40ha (100 acres) of Gerald oats, which would be followed by 182ha (450 acres) of Claire, Riband, Oakley and Einstein winter wheat.

“The wheats are still about three weeks away but are looking good.” Said Mr Digwood.
