British Sugar has announced its factory start dates for the 2009/10 sugar beet processing campaign.

The dates are 16 September for Newark and Wissington, 22 September for Bury and 24 September for Cantley.

Colm McKay, British Sugar’s head of agriculture, said: “Sugar beet is once again proving a stable crop for arable farmers, with the 2009 crop progressing well following good early season growth and adequate rainfall to-date.

“However, with 50% of the season to go growers are encouraged to maximise yields by protecting the crop from late season diseases and ensure efficient harvesting when the campaign starts.”
