Caley winding up in Yorkshire
Caley Sackur hoped to finish harvest at Lodge Farm, Tibthorpe, Yorks, either today (18 September) or tomorrow, following a couple of fine days.
“It’s been one of the most difficult harvests I have known,” he said. “Even when we started wheat we’d lost the Hagberg – it was already down to 170.”
The first block of Malacca would make low grade milling wheat, and yields had been reasonable at 10t/ha (4t/acre).
The remaining 20ha (50 acres) of Cordiale was still standing and looked quite good, despite some germination, said Mr Sackur.
“Most people are finishing off or have just finished around here, although the bigger farms have got a few days left.”
Winter barley, cut some time ago, had yielded well at 8.6t/ha (3.5t/acre), but the rape had been disappointing at just 3.7t/ha (1.5t/acre).
