Blobbing for extra accuracy… Ex-contractor John Beare prepares to apply a cocktail of Hawk, Panther and Arelon, plus wetter, to mid October-sown Gladiator wheat on Sir Richard Hyde Parker Farms at Long Melford on the Essex/Suffolk border.

The application, against resistant blackgrass and ryegrass as well as wild oats and broadleaved weeds, follows a delayed pre-emergence herbicide treatment, says manager Nick Huxtable.

Although all fields are tramlined the foam blobber helps reduce overlaps when leaving landwork, a tip Mr Beare learned when working as a contactor.
