Oli Hill, senior arable reporter

The search is on to hire a new reporter to join the arable team at Farmers Weekly. Who better to explain what the role entails than senior arable reporter Oli Hill.

This is an exciting chance to join the biggest team within the wider editorial team.

I’ve been on the desk for nearly two-and-a-half years, writing for Farmers Weekly, our website fwi.co.uk and sister publication Future Farming magazine.

Travelling the UK and the world on a regular basis is a major perk of the role – my work has taken me to new places, as I got to grips with the latest arable innovations.

RBI general benefits package

  • Salary – £32,000
  • Group pension scheme
  • 29 days annual holiday
  • Two paid charity days a year
  • Save as you earn share scheme

If you’re the kind of person who can jump out of the car after a long drive and instantly get chatting with farmers and advisers then this could be the job for you.

When back in the office there’s a great team of people to work with on ideas for content, video and social media.

You’ll get the chance to work with other desks from time to time, covering the Young Farmers’ National Convention for example – always a good laugh.

This is the ideal role for somebody who wants to carve a career in agri-journalism, develop their technical farming knowledge and hone their written, video and social media skills.

Job requirements

A formal journalism qualification is desirable, but candidates with good writing and communication skills, an understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the UK arable sector and the ability to develop new skills will be considered.

You will be required to represent Farmers Weekly at events at home and abroad, so must be comfortable talking to farmers, agronomists, researchers and the wider industry.
