With a predicted couple of days of combining left, yesterday’s 50mm (2 inches) of rain did not bring a total washout at Robert Claydon’s farm in Suffolk.

With all of the oilseed rape, spring barley and most of the wheat already cut, the end is in site earlier than usual for the farm.

Yields were pretty much as expected, with Optic spring barley coming in at 6.2t/ha (2.5t/acre) at a moisture content of 15% and Malacca winter wheat between 7.9-9.9t/ha (3.2-4t/acre) at moisture of 11-15%.

Oilseed rape has also done well at 3.7t/ha (1.5t/acre) but has had lower moisture content than usual.
