Herbicide manufacturer Bayer CropScience has confirmed its product Atlantis can be used beyond the cut-off date of 31 March until 21 April, for this season.

The dry and cold weather has meant conditions have been unfavourable for early spring applications of the herbicide containing mesosulfuron-methyl and iodosulfuron-methyl-sodium, the company’s Nick Duncan explained.

“We’ve extended the use period by three weeks, after which sales will cease for this season”, Mr Duncan said.

The 31 March cut-off for Atlantis is recommended to help growers with herbicide resistance stewardship by encouraging applications before grass-weeds get too large, Mr Duncan confirmed.

The change in recommendation applies to this spring only.
