Harvest is about three-quarters complete in Lincolnshire, and yields have been excellent, according to Simon Schaanning of Honey Pot Grain Storage.

“There are a lot of people asking for extra storage on both oilseeds and cereals.”

Farmers had almost finished cutting oilseed rape, and were well into wheat – although the store had mostly been taking Group 2 varieties so far, he said.

“It is now, thankfully, coming in dry. But there’s still a fair bit around to be cut.”

Protein contents averaged 11.5-12.5%, with Hagbergs mostly at 250-300, and bushelweights averaging 77kg/hl.

High yields had diluted protein contents, with similar results on early samples of Solstice, said Mr Schaanning.

Spring barley intake was yet to get underway, and Wintmalt winter barley had averaged 1.5-1.6% nitrogen, 65-70kg/hl, with decent germination, he added.

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2009/10 variety with very high UK treated yields and a maximum 9 rating for resistance to lodging with and without PGR. Combined with the highest second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, Duxford will continue to help UK growers meet the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
