Caley Sackur is combining wheat today at Lodge Farm, Tibthorpe, Driffield, Yorkshire, and is pleased with his harvest so far.

The Malacca winter wheat was yielding between 8.6t/ha and 11.1t/ha (3.5-4.5t/acre), but there was still 57ha (140 acres) to finish combining.

Cordiale second wheat had yielded about average, at 9.9t/ha (4t/acre), with slightly low protein of 12%, despite applying Nufol.

Excalibur oilseed rape had performed extremely well, at between 4.3t/ha and 5t/ha (1.75-2t/acre). “It’s hard to be exact as the combine’s yield monitor is not working properly,” said Mr Sackur.

Cassata winter barley had also yielded well, at 8t/ha (3.25t/acre), and all had been accepted for malting at 1.5-1.55% nitrogen.

Mr Sackur now had the Malacca and 80ha (200 acres) of Oakley to finish combining. “It looks very promising.”

Harvest was between two-thirds and three-quarters through in the area, although one neighbour had recently finished, he added.
