Oilseed rape which has been sprayed off for up to three weeks is now at risk of shedding, according to Hampshire Grain’s Mike Clay.
“We had a fair bit of rape in yesterday (27 July), but a lot of it is getting to the stage where it’s been desiccated for up to three weeks. It could start shedding.”
Rapeseed harvest was only about 10% complete in the area, he said. “We’d expect to be into the thick of it by now.”
Rain over the weekend had kept farmers away from winter barley so far this week, with less than 20% cut so far.
“It’s just been enough to stop people going.”
Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2009/10 variety with very high UK treated yields and a maximum 9 rating for resistance to lodging with and without PGR. Combined with the highest second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, Duxford will continue to help UK growers meet the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
