Potato growers in the North are being sought to join a network of industry-supported demonstration farms to help showcase the latest growing techniques.

AHDB Potatoes is on the hunt for another forward-thinking grower to join its group of four strategic potato (SPot) farms to complement the existing demonstration farms in Suffolk, Shropshire, Somerset and Perthshire.

AHDB Potatoes’ knowledge exchange manager for north-east England, Graham Bannister, said the host farmer will be able to take the lead on establishing which research projects to take part in.

“We’re seeking an innovative grower to work with us to challenge conventional working practices,” he explained.

There are a number of hot topics within the industry at the moment including cultivations and soil management, crop nutrition, varieties and seed rates, in-field greening, burn-off, harvest and loading techniques.

Anyone interested in taking part who is attending the British Potato event at the Great Yorkshire Showground tomorrow or Thursday (22-23 November) can drop by stand 137 to discuss the idea further.
