Despite buying a second combine to help speed through harvest, John Wilcox was still only halfway through his wheat at Batch Acre Hall, Stratford, Staffs.

“We did about 100 acres with it, and both combines have sat in the field since and done nothing for almost a fortnight.”

Yields had been excellent, averaging about 8.6t/ha (3.5t/acre), but grains were now splitting in the standing corn.

“We’re quite tempted to go on now at 26-27% moisture – I don’t know how much longer we can leave it,” said Mr Wilcox.

“I’m more concerned about sowing other crops now because we’ve got fields which are under water.”

 Syngenta

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2008/09 variety with very high UK treated yields and the top score for resistance to lodging with PGR. Combined with an unbeaten second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, this new variety from Syngenta Seeds will help UK growers rise to the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
