JV Farming Ltd’s members have managed to cut 40% of their crops in Dorset, despite the wet weather, and are now combining spring barley.

“We are all now hoping that a two week window of dry weather to complete the task isn’t too much to ask,” said Nick Finding.

“Yields have been higher than anything so far achieved during our six years together as a Joint Venture, so there is a bright side to it all.”

Having cut 65ha (160 acres) of the 164ha (405 acres) of Tipple spring barley, JV Farming was averaging 8.6t/ha (3.5t/acre).

After the Tipple they had 147ha (363 acres) of Quench to cut, said Mr Finding. “Amazingly it’s all pretty well stood up still.”

Final yields for the oilseed rape, dried and over a weighbridge, ranged from 3.43-4.28t/ha (1.4-1.7t/acre), with Catana topping the list. “Needless to say Catana is going to have a bigger proportion of the hectareage for 2009.”

 Syngenta

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2008/09 variety with very high UK treated yields and the top score for resistance to lodging with PGR. Combined with an unbeaten second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, this new variety from Syngenta Seeds will help UK growers rise to the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
