Kent wheat harvest 90% complete

Harvest was completed two and half weeks ago at Reed Court Farm, Marden, Kent, leaving Jonathan Tipples to get on with drilling next year’s oilseed rape.

“The wheat harvest is about 90% done in Kent and if we get a dry week pretty much everything will be finished,” he said.

His 182ha (450 acres) of Einstein yielded just under 8.6t/ha (3.5t/acre), and all was likely to make milling quality. “It tested at 78kg/hl, 11.5-12.5% protein and 270-350 Hagberg.”

Oilseed rape yields were about average at 3.7t/acre (1.5t/acre).
