Farmers Weekly Academy has launched the first part of a new course for arable growers on sustainable soils.

According to Leaf, a loss of 1t/ha a year from erosion means that many fields will run out of soil because the rate of regeneration is only half of that amount a year.

The course gives advice on how farmers can protect this most precious resource.

Key areas of the first module include what the components of good soil structure are, how soil can be assessed and how to improve soil quality.

The course information has been compiled from the Simply Sustainable Soils booklet written by Leaf in association with Asda.
